Continue reading »]]> It’s been a long, sad winter but Spring is almost upon us and it’s time to make some changes here at The China Cabinet.

First, our name is changing. All of China and Audrey’s posts will stay with the site but since China is no longer with us, we’re closing up the cabinet and opening up the Zany Zone. At least, that’s what we’re calling it for now. We’ll probably be changing domains soon, too, since ‘china’ is part of the current domain.

This past weekend we brought a new kitty into our home. His name was Wiggy but since he’s only 9 months old we didn’t think changing it to Ziggy would be too much of a lifestyle change for him. So far he’s doing well. Zoe isn’t happy about him being here but we’re hoping she’ll come around and she and Ziggy will be able to co-exist if not be best buds.

I don’t have many pictures yet but you can see Ziggy up in the header. He’s even handsomer in person.

Continue reading »]]> I know we haven’t been keeping this blog up to date, but in case there’s anyone out there still following, I wanted to let you know that we had to let China go yesterday. She contracted Lyme disease about a month ago – the worst case the vet has ever seen – and over the weekend she went into acute renal failure.

We adopted China on December 7, 2002 and the past 9 years of our lives have been enriched because of her presence. She did everything with us including camping trips, vacations and everything in between. Although she was never a cuddler – in fact, she pretty much hated to be touched, although she would put up with it – we knew she loved us.

It’s going to be very hard living without her but we know that we did what was best for her. The only thing worse then putting China to sleep was watching her suffer.

We’ll always love you puppy.

Continue reading »]]> Hi! People tell me a new year has started but I don’t care. This is when I’m my least happiest. I mean, look at this:

And it’s about twice as deep as that now and frozen over. The only place I really have to run is in the driveway and even that’s like a frozen pond. It’s just no fun. Even when it’s sunny I don’t like being outside right now.

So I’m spending my time inside on the couch, dreaming of Spring when Mom starts digging around int he dirt and cursing at that grass she calls weeds. I can’t wait to just lay around in the sun, soaking up the rays and sniffing the fresh air.

Continue reading »]]> It’s October now and Mom says it’s time to start all the scariness. She and Daddy have even bought a huuuuge gourd! It’s in the kitchen right now, taunting me as I speak (dictate). I just know it’s going to start making faces at me soon.

It’s Fall now and all our trees have been dying their leaves. The weather’s been kind of wonky – first it’s kind of chilly and then it gets all warm and soggy again. But the trees haven’t even slowed down their changing ways.

My field has been changing, too. The monster came and ate it up, like it does every year, then spit up some hayballs, just like it does every year. Now, the grass is all way short and it’s easier to explore, which I do every chance I get.

And since the leaves have started to fall off, of course Mom has to take my picture sitting in them. I don’t get it, but it makes her happy.

This again? *sigh*

Zoe’s doing all right. Mostly just sleeping.
