Heh, heh…did I say I was going to post more this year?

Well…oops.

Yes, we have been silent for about two months now. For a dog that’s like…well, two months.

Spring did end, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. The hot times are here again and boy, has it been really hot! One night last month it was so hot I was getting sick so Mom gave me a bath. Ugh. It was awful!

But I did feel better afterwards…until two hours later when I had my first skunk encounter. I hardly even saw it! I went outside to pee, walked to my usual spot and BAM! Right in the face! Man, are they stinky! I had ANOTHER bath that same night but this time I got into the bath willingly – my first time ever.

Mom and Daddy did a real good job getting the stinky off me. To all you pooches out there, don’t let your peoples use tomato juice – it doesn’t work! What worked for us was a mixture of Baking Soda, Peroxide and dish soap. Mom scrubbed it in real good, left it on for about fifteen hours  and then rinsed me off.

Okay, I exagerate. It was only five minutes, but it felt like half a day!

Mom says be careful mixing Baking Soda and Peroxide. They can fizz and go BOOM!

Now Mom and Daddy are real careful when they let me out at night. Daddy always looks around first before I go out and Mom actually steps outside and yells warnings to the skunks.

Spring has finally stuck

Spring just couldn’t make up its mind this year. It came early and then went away, came back, went away and then Summer made an appearance and now Spring is back again. If I didn’t have humans to explain it all to me, I’d be so confused.

Mom’s been working even more in the garden this year which is great for me. It means I get to be outside even more than usual. It’s a good thing too, because you never know when the Hottentots are going to make a sneak attack.

I’ve also been vigilant in my guarding of the meat duties. Here you can see me keeping a close eye on the hot dogs Daddy’s cooking. If any fall on the ground, I’m quick to save them.

Mostly, I just relax and watch the world go by. It is my favorite thing to do and this year it hasn’t rained as much as it did last Spring time. Last Spring, I think I could have swam out here.

Zoe’s been her normal insane self. Her favorite activity is sitting in windows and watching birds. Sometimes she even forgets herself and meows. Mom even finally heard it once – she was starting to believe Zoe could only chirp.

She’s behaving a little better. Here’s proof. She’s sitting next to flowers and NOT trying to chew them. Of course, these kind (Mom calls them Mary’s gold) are pretty stinky. Besides, Zoe prefers her flowers dead and dry.

I hope your Spring has been nice. I’m having loads of fun with all this sun and I can hardly wait for my field to grow over my head. It’s the only time I have any real privacy.

Until next time….beware the Hottentots.

Springtime for the Cat

Hey there – it’s me, Zoe. Not much time to talk, I’m busy sitting in windows and playing with my mousie on a string.

Aaaah, the life of a cat….

Walking with Aliens

This past Saturday was soooo nice. While Mom cleaned the house I sat outside and sniffed as the world went by. But later, I started getting the fever. You know what I mean….CABIN FEVER. (I hear it’s related to Space Madness.) So, I gave Mom my best ‘I need to get out of this house right now or I’m going to stare at you like this for the rest of the day’ stare. I’m really good at that, see?:

I need out...NOW

I need out...NOW

I guess I did a real good job this time because it worked! Mom packed up some treats, water and my leash and we got in the car. Yippee! I knew we were going someplace different so I didn’t mind the car ride.

I bet I could drive just as well as Daddy

We weren’t in the car too awfully long but when we got out, it was a whole new place! I’d never been here before. Mom said it was called Bradbury Mountain State Park. I’ve heard Daddy say some guy named Ray Bradbury writes some really strange stuff so I kept my eyes out for aliens and monsters and all that kooky stuff. Mostly, I just saw trees.

Are those people human...or aliens?

We had a nice walk in the woods. There were way too many kids – they make me nervous and Mom  just doesn’t like being around them much – but they were nice and didn’t try to pet me without asking. Noisy, though.

Before we left, we sat at a picnic table and I rolled in the grass. It was nice and warm and scratchy – just the way I like it!

After all the excitement I was happy to get back in the car and go home for a looong nap.

I want to sing, it is Spring, it is Spring, it is Spring

…that’s a song I made up all by myself.

This past weekend was SO nice. Mom said it got all the way up in the 50’s! I don’t know exactly what that means but it sure was a lot warmer than it has been. Look, almost all the white stuff is gone!

It was even warm enough to lay out in the sun and chew on sticks – which is, like, my favorite thing to do when it’s all sunny outside.

Even Zoe likes the new weather. She got to sit in sunny windowsills all weekend and soak up the rays. Sometimes I wish I were small enough to fit up there.
